Imari Lamps - the Rise & Rise of Oriental Décor
The West has had a love affair with Chinese & Japanese decorative arts for the past 350 years! & it is still growing in popularity.
In 1650, The Dutch East India Company opened the doors of Europe to the discovery of Japanese porcelain. To the Europeans, it was “love at first sight” when the bright Imari porcelain first arrived.
The name “Imari” is derived from the name of the trading port granted by the Japanese Emperor. Soon these highly decorative porcelain patterns became known as “Imari”.
The decoration was in fact, derived from the sometimes identical patterns found in Japanese textiles & brocades. A standard range of colours make up the traditional palette. These being a rich cobalt blue combined with deep iron red to produce the basic colours which are then often embellished with pale blue, yellow, aubergine, greens & black.
"Shown with custom made pleated, silk shades, a beautiful, big pair of antique, Imari lamps, the bright enamel palette still aglow and still as fresh as new, even after 100 years plus!"
These highly coloured Imari porcelains were much favoured by the Europeans of the 18th & 19th centuries with their bright brocade-like colours cheering up the long days of winter.
Carefully placed, quality table lamps can “make” a room with their ability to produce a pleasant level of mood lighting.
The Antique & Vintage Table Lamp Co specialise in antique table lamp lighting with an on-line range of over 100 unique, antique and vintage lamps on view.
